Happy May Monday! CAUTION: lots of sunshine and beautiful weather ahead! May is one of the best months out of the whole year on Hilton Head Island; perfect temperatures and the lightest rainfall. The icing on the top of the cake? The ocean is finally warm enough to go for a swim! So you can cool down from the hot sun on your beach days. ☀️
Be on the lookout! Beginning in May and ending in October, the sea turtles begin to make their way to our beaches to lay their eggs. All down the coast of Hilton Head you will find nests blocked off with caution tape and signs for where they have marked their territory for their new babies. ?
Here are some things to keep in mind to ensure the safety of our sea turtles:
- Lights off after 10pm on beachfront properties
- No flashlights on the beach
- Fill all your holes in the sand & knock down sandcastles before you leave the beach
- Pick up litter if you see it
- Leave nests undisturbed
- Spread the word!
Hilton Head Island is fortunate to be a destination where the sea turtles come back year after year to nest. So, we want to be sure to honor that and take the right precautions to keep them safe.
